A Miami Beach police payroll coordinator was fired for giving herself paid time off and overtime that she wasn’t entitled to, according to her termination letter.
Michelle Patrick-Harris was fired on March 20. An investigation was still ongoing at the time of her termination, according to the letter.
“It is apparent that you misused your position of trust to falsify payroll records and receive compensation for which you were not entitled,” read the letter, which was signed by Chief of Police Raymond Martinez.
According to the letter:
Patrick-Harris used her knowledge of the payroll system to enter paid days off that she didn’t earn, and then erase the entry before it was officially submitted into the city’s official payroll system. She did this on five separate occasions, dating from June 2011 through August 2012. Each time, she gave herself eight hours of unearned leave time.
Patrick-Harris also improperly paid herself for 107 hours of compensatory leave and $1,022 in overtime.
“Your egregious misconduct supports your termination and disqualification from any and all city employment,” Martinez wrote in the termination letter.
According to 2011 and 2012 payroll records, Patrick-Harris earned a $61,000 salary.
