A small plane landed on U.S. 27 near Weston Tuesday night.

The plane, a twin-engine Beechcraft 18, made an emergency landing some five miles north of Interstate 75 near Weston. The two people on board were not hurt.

The plane had taken off from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport on a training exercise, said Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles.

The pilot aborted and made a forced landing at mile marker 44 on U.S. 27, went off the roadway onto the median.

The Beechcraft was not damaged.

“The pilot did a good job with the landing,” Jachles said.

Broward Sheriff’s Fire Rescue’s Regional Everglades unit responded, but was not needed, he said.

It was unclear whether the plane ran out of fuel or had a mechanical failure.
