The anniversary of Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Cuba will be reflected in time on changes to take place in Cuba now that Pope Francis has been elected. Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio√ was deeply involved in the pope’s meetings in Cuba. I have to agree with Andy Gomez’s assessment in the March 26 article, Many changes in year since pope’s Cuba visit, of the present situation in Cuba.
The selection of a new papal nuncio to Havana and the replacement of Cardinal Jaime Lucas Ortega will impact the Church’s relations with the Cuban government. Pope Francis is one who cares deeply for the poor, particularly in Latin America and his desire for changes in Cuba will be reflected in his future appointments.
