Mary Sanchez’s March 25 article, Iraq war veteran’s battle almost over, needs to be distributed to students everywhere. Kudos to her for writing the tragic story of Tomas Young. A required reading when I was in high school was the book by Dalton Trumbo, Johnny got his gun.
The story, much like that of Tomas Young, illustrates the devastating personal lost and pain that continues long after a war is forgotten, while those who began the mindless war in the first place are leading a happy, carefree existence with their families.
If presidents, Congress, dictators, and religious leaders everywhere were required to be on the front lines every time a war was declared, there would be no more wars.
