Miramar boy, 11, struck, killed by car while skateboarding



An 11-year-old Miramar boy, riding his skateboard on the street was struck and killed by a car Thursday night, police said.

The accident occurred just after 6 p.m. in the gated Vizcaya community at 5000 SW 136th Ave.

Police said the boy apparently rode his skateboard into the path of the vehicle, according to Det. Yessenia Diaz, a police spokeswoman.

The driver remained at the scene, and rushed to a nearby home for help.

The boy was taken to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, where he died.

Police said the boy lived in Vizcaya community. His name was not released until his family could be notified of his death.

Police were investigating the accident, but said it was unlikely that the driver would face charges.
