The Florida Legislature hasn’t moved forward on the Cathy Jordan Medical Cannabis Act, which would allow doctors to prescribe cannabis for medicinal purposes. Rep. Ken Roberson, a funeral home director, has refused to schedule the bill for his committee to hear. Rep. Dennis Baxley, owner of six funeral homes, and Senate President Don Gaetz, co-founder of VITAS HealthCare Corp., a hospice- care organization, also oppose the bill. Why don’t these elected officials support easing the suffering of the sick and elderly? A conflict of interest, perhaps? Profits before people?
