By Miami Herald Staff

President Barack Obama will travel to Mexico and Costa Rica from May 2-4, the White House announced Wednesday.

“This trip is an important opportunity to reinforce the deep cultural, familial, and economic ties that so many Americans share with Mexico and Central America,” a statement said.

In Mexico, Obama will meet President Enrique Peña Nieto on “the broad array of bilateral, regional, and global issues.”

Then, Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla will host the leaders of the other Central American countries and the Dominican Republic to meet with Obama.
