A South Broward High teacher has been arrested for allegedly having consensual sex with a 16-year-old female student back in December.
The Broward Sheriffs Office said the teens mother became aware of the relationship between her daughter and teacher Michael James Lunt, 25, of Sunrise, and reported it to law enforcement.
"Our school district police are working in collaboration with BSO and have launched an administrative investigation, said Broward public schools spokeswoman Tracy Clark said. The teacher will be reassigned away from students while the criminal and administrative investigations continue."
Lunts assignment at the high school was not released, but the school website identifies him as a science teacher.
Lunt turned himself in Tuesday night at the Broward Sheriffs Main Jail. He was charged with one count of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, a second-degree felony.
Anyone with information about other inappropriate behavior by Lunt can report it to Broward Sheriffs Office Special Victims Unit Detective Ann Suter at (954) 321-4240.
