President Obama’s historic address in Jerusalem has changed the conversation about Israel’s survival as a democracy and Jewish homeland.
He demonstrated that he understands the need for a Jewish homeland, but he also went above and beyond what Israelis are used to hearing from American politicians by telling them the truth, an honest assessment of the threats posed by an unsustainable status quo. He offered an alternative: Israel can seize control of its own destiny by negotiating with its genuine partner, the Palestinian Authority.
I hope that Congress and the American people will strongly support U.S. engagement to help Israel and the Palestinians finally resolve this conflict with a two-state solution.
