Luis Andres Gazitua is spot on in his assessment of the harm that awaits businesses by the overreaching annexations requested by Miami Springs, Medley and Miami Gardens ( Miami-Dade’s dangerous road to Pleasantville, March 16, Other Views).
The business owners should be railing against this tax grab, and the 1.2 million residents of unincorporated Miami-Dade County should be screaming loud and long, too. Every time one of the municipalities tries to take business taxes that are paid to unincorporated Miami-Dade, it reduces the dollars available to provide services to county residents. This theft of our tax dollars must stop.
These cities chose their boundaries and were financially vetted to be sound at their creation. There is no reason, other than greed, to try to feather their nests at the expense of their neighbors.
