Sen. Marco Rubio is in denial when he tells CPAC attendees that because he believes states should have the right to deny gay couples marriage equality “does not make me a bigot.” Denying loving and committed gay couples the rights of the marriage celebrated and enjoyed by straight couples is the very essence of bigotry.
In the not-too-distant past, some Christians interpreted their religion to justify segregation, believing and preaching that the Lord wished the races to be kept separate. To many segregationists, banning black and white unions or denying blacks admission to a university wasn’t bigotry; it was living the gospel.
Sen. Rubio, if it sounds like bigotry and looks like bigotry, it is bigotry.
