Canucks D Edler handed 2-game suspension

The Sports Network

The National Hockey League suspended Vancouver defenseman Alexander Edler for two games without pay on Friday.

The penalty stems from a charging incident in Thursday's game against Phoenix when Edler was assessed a five-minute major for a charge on Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith.

The incident occurred at the 18:17 mark of the second period of the Canucks' 2-1 victory.

Edler will forfeit $35,135.14 for the ban and will miss games in Los Angeles and Colorado before being eligible to play at home against Columbus on Tuesday.

On the season, he has five goals and 12 assists in 30 games.
