Miami Springs churches to united for upcoming Holy Week

    With Easter Holy Week on the horizon, things will kick off this coming Sunday, March 24 when Grace Lutheran Church, led by Pastor David Imhoff, will hold its traditional “Blessing of the Palms” beginning at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Gazebo on the Circle.

    That will be followed by a series of week-long services where the public is invited to come and spend lunch hour with different pastors from around the community who will hold services at different locations each day from noon to 12:45 p.m.

    The services will be by church rotation with a guest preacher at each home church on a different day. Each noon service will feature scripture, music and sermon.

    On Monday, March 25, Imhoff will hold a service at Poinciana United Methodist Church, 300 N. Royal Poinciana Blvd. Reverend Mother Susan Keedy from All Angels Church will host a noon bilingual service on Tuesday, March 26 at Vida Nueva Christian Ministries, 81 Hook Square, followed by Vida Nueva’s Ricky Gallinar hosting a service at Seventh Day Adventist, 701 Curtiss Pkwy., on Wednesday, March 27.

    A traditional Maundy Thursday service will take place at noon on March 28 at All Angels Episcopal Church, 1801 Ludlam Drive and be hosted by Rev. Marty Dowling.

    On Good Friday, March 29, Miami Springs Baptist Church will hold its “Carrying of the Cross” down Westward Drive. Everyone will meet in the church parking lot (378 Westward Drive) at 11 a.m. and walk with a large wooden cross eastbound down Curtiss Parkway to Grace Lutheran Church. Services at Grace, 254 Curtiss Parkway will begin at noon and  Poinciana United Methodist’s Rev. Gordon Pike will host the service.

    Blessed Trinity Church’s Holy Week will begin on Palm Sunday, March 24 with masses in English at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Spanish masses at 12:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

    Miami Springs Senior High School golfers Luke Llaneras and Pat Perez turned in quite a performance a few weeks ago when they finished first and second, respectively in the South Florida PGA Challenge Tour event for junior golfers and will compete in the U.S. Amateur qualifier on June 1-2 in Lake Worth.

    Local Miami Springs Girls Scouts earn Bronze Award

    Miami Springs Girl Scout Troop 594 has six Girl Scouts who are earning the prestigious Bronze Award. The girls traveled back in time and around the world without stepping a foot out of Miami Springs or Virginia Gardens and the community has the opportunity to join the adventure and be inspired through the girls’ project.

    Holding true to a 34-year tradition, a special event took place at Grace Lutheran Church on Saturday night, May 11 when the annual Daughters of All Ages Banquet was held with the theater production of “Anything Goes" as the theme.
