Hooray for Mary Ellen Klas and the Herald/Times Tallahassee Bureau for the story on how Internet cafes are obtaining money illegally and then keeping most of it instead of donating the money to legitimate charities.
What a sad commentary on the state of greed in this country. It was disgusting to learn how much of the money has been spent on contributions to legislators and both major political parties so that they’ll turn a blind eye to the fraud. Oh, of course, a lot of the money had to pay the cafes’ lobbyists, too.
Isn’t it sad, but hilarious, too, how quickly state legislators are scrambling to pass bills that will get this issue hushed up? It shows that they can do governance in a hurry when it’s saving their hides.
