Pena’s grand slam leads Saint Brendan’s comeback

Saint Brendan’s baseball team pulled ahead of Archbishop McCarthy and won 10-7 on Thursday.

Down 7-4, catcher Fabian Pena hit a grand slam and gave the Sabres a one-run lead. Two more runs were added in the sixth and seventh. Pena went 2 for 5 with 4 RBI and pitcher Matt Diaz picked up his third win of the season.

SOFTBALL

The Westminster Christian softball team blew past previously undefeated Coral Reef for an 8-2 win at Coral Reef Thursday.

Trailing 2-0 in the third, junior Caitlin Charlton hit a home run with two on and two outs to take a lead that the warriors wouldn’t relinquish.

Kelli Kleis, who pitched a complete game and struck out four, helped to keep the rest of the game scoreless for the Barracudas.

The Warriors managed to rally again in the seventh, scoring three.

Westminster Christian (12-4) goes on to face Coral Gables Friday at 4 in a make-up game that was postponed due to rain on Tuesday.
