A janitor at a Southwest Miami-Dade nursing home died after a visitor to the facility stabbed him in the neck.

The janitor was airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center’s trauma center from the Coral Reef Nursing & Rehab Center, 9869 SW 152nd St., shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday. He died at the hospital.

His identity was withheld until his family could be notified.

Police had responded to a report of a man who stabbed another man at the rehab center.

According to Miami-Dade police, the suspect is a man who was visiting his brother, a patient at the facility. For unknown reasons, investigators told police, the man stabbed the janitor in the neck multiple times.

The man then fled. When police caught up to him, they said, he was still carrying the knife.

The attacker was not immediately identified.
