The Miami-Dade Expressway Authority board on Tuesday approved higher tolls in many cases on State Roads 836 and 112, the Dolphin and Airport expressways, along with a new electronic collection system that will eliminate cash tolls by the summer of 2014.
But minutes after the boards close 7-6 vote, board chairman Maurice Ferre said it is possible the increase will be reconsidered at the boards April 30 meeting.
Currently, drivers pay $1 at tollbooths on 836 and 112. Under the program approved Tuesday, lower tolls would be levied, but there will be additional collection points.
