I always wondered why any proposed tax, local or state, never fails to pass in Miami-Dade County. Waiting in line 4 1/2 hours to vote at the last presidential election provided me an answer. A man, obviously a union guy, was passing cards with the roster of Democrats running for office to those waiting in line. He recommended that they also vote for President Obama and the $1.2-billion school bond issue, though, he said, “I don’t trust them with the money.” In the line, there were people who didn’t even know the district they lived in, and the guy had to explain it to them.
So much for a well-informed electorate.
