David Smith’s March 14 letter questioned the need for several votes during the conclave if the pope’s electors were so holy.
Christ established his church and entrusted it to fallible human beings, much like his 12 apostles. Discernment requires recollection and prayer. Human desires and weaknesses get in the way. As for women’s role, the church reveres Mary as the mother of God and turns to her to pray for us. Jesus’ church is imperfect, but has survived 2,000 years with unbroken succession.
