New England Patriots wide receiver Donte Stallworth reportedly was transferred to the burn unit at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami on Sunday for treatment of the injuries he suffered Saturday when the hot-air balloon in which he was riding drifted into power lines in South Miami-Dade.
Stallworth and his girlfriend, Soleil Guerrero, were taking a ride on the balloon when the accident occurred. They were initially taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center, and then moved to Jackson.
“I appreciate all the prayers and well wishes more than you know. I feel lucky to be alive,” Stallworth said in a tweet to his Twitter followers late Saturday.
CNN.com quoted Drew Rosenhaus, Stallworth’s agent, as saying, “He was injured, but will be fine,” and that he would be playing agin “in a matter of weeks.”
Stallworth made headlines in 2009 when he hit and killed Mario Reyes, a 59-year-old pedestrian, while driving his Bentley under the influence across the MacArthur Causeway. He pleaded guilty to DUI manslaughter and spent 24 days in jail.
