Miami Heat Miami Herald Academic Sportsmanship Honorees

 

About this feature

Sports Scene is a Miami Herald feature that spotlights news and notes from all youth sports activities in your neighborhood. The aim of the section is to feature game notes from any sport and the accomplishments of athletes from Miami-Dade County.

We rely on the directors and coaches of each league to send information for Sports Scene. We also accept photos, but we ask that everyone pictured be identified with a first and last name and the name of the team or park they represent.

An eighth grader at Miami Country Day School, she starts on the high school girls’ varsity team. She led the Spartans to the Adidas Tournament title where she earned another MVP award and was instrumental in the team’s FHSAA district and region titles and school record state final berth.

Prior, she played volleyball and tennis for Parkway Middle School in Miami.

She made the Dean’s List, won a Do the Right Thing award, received a key to the City of Miami Gardens and was selected Junior Carnival Queen for the Miami Caribbean Carnival.

• Simi Serfati

Simi, 13, competed for the Scheck Hillel Community lower school girls’ basketball team before making the middle school team. She also participated in soccer and volleyball.

A positive student athlete with character, she won the Coach’s Award for basketball and soccer. A seventh grader, she also made the Distinguished Honor Roll and carries a 4.23 grade point average. Simi, an Aventura resident, is also proficient in dance and piano.

Prime Time basketball

Player of the Week Alan Wainer had 19 points as the Panthers beat the Orangemen 29-26 in the Big East (3rd-4th grade) of Prime Time Sports basketball at the Michael Ann-Russell Jewish Community Center in North Miami Beach. Tatiana Wainer had five points, and Jake Moss added three points. Joseph Abramowitz had two points.

For the Orangemen, Daniel Broides had a game-high 22 points, and Nadav Leibovivi added two points. Jaime Mizrahi and Michael Benzadon also scored.

More Big East: Bearcats 31, Bulls 24: Liam Senker 21 pts, Roy Blank 4 pts, Aaron Sherit 2 pts, Gabriel Puterman 2 pts, Aden Ben- Saadon 2 pts. For the Bulls, Jacob Golan 8, Josh Finvarb 6 pts, Marc Wendrow 8 pts, Jake Gelb 2 pts.

Huskies 28, Wildcats 18: Ryan Mendelson 12 pts, Tyler Gale 5 pts, Val Share 5 pts, Haim Sadovnic 4 pts, Jonathan Gueron 2 pts. For the Wildcats, Avi Lalo 4 pts, Abie Saada 4 pts, Carlos Romano 4 pts, Meyer Shalom 6 pts.

Scarlet Knights 16, Hoyas 14: Daniel Abbo 6 pts, Eithan Yisrael 2 pts, Evan Lastra 4 pts, Jordan Ben-Shalom 4 pts . For the Hoyas, Daniel Gutkin 2 pts, Jack Shechtman 2 pts, Benny Bakar 2 pts, Abie Wahba 2 pts, Laueyn Hornstein 4 pts, Samuel Merenfeld.

Player of the Week Eric Getzel had 16 points as the Razorbacks edged the Volunteers 45-42. Samuel Taieb 10pts, David Bonwitt 7 pts, Amit Sapir 7 pts, Maurice Dweck 3 pts, and Benjamin Wolf had two points. For the Volunteers, Saul Birmaher had 17 points, and Nathaniel Elharrar scored nine points. Armando Ruah had 10 points, and Igal Ovaknin added four points. Elan Roffe had two points.

Commodores 30, Wildcats 19: Leonardo Nicastro 7 pts, Ross Vaygensberg 8 pts, Jonathan Abbo 8 pts, Jake Strober 6 pts, Jonathan Baran 1 pts. For the Wildcats Jonathan Kiblisky 2 pts, Leon Assor 8 pts, Moises Benhamu pts, Abraham Woldenberg 6 pts, Andres Bacal 2 pts.

Crimson Tide 36, Gators 28: Yaniv Assraf 12 pts, Jaime Acherman 6 pts, Ben Ratzker 9 pts, Shaul Levy 9pts, Ziv Markovitz 2 pts. For the Gators, Daniel Shaferman 7 pts, Matias Maia 5 pts, Nathan Azizollahoff 2 pts, Alan Grinspun 6 pts, Gabriel Dayan 4 pts, Michael Hirsch 4 pts.

Bulldogs 40, Tigers 31: Ariel Yecuteli 9 pts, Asher Courtney 6 pts, Noah Markofsky 16 pts, Eli Gelb 2 pts, Steven Becker 2pts, Michael Berenstein 3 pts, Michael Braun 2 pts.
