Panthers re-sign Derek Anderson

The Sports Network

The Carolina Panthers have re-signed veteran quarterback Derek Anderson.

Anderson has spent the past two seasons in Charlotte as Cam Newton's primary caddy, connecting on all four of his pass attempts in 2012 after failing to throw a pass in Newton's NFL Rookie of the Year campaign of 2011.

The eight-year veteran has played in 55 career games, starting 43. He has thrown for 9,206 yards with 53 touchdowns and 55 interceptions.

Anderson's best year as a pro came in 2007 with the Cleveland Browns, when he completed 298-of-527 passes for 3,787 yards, 29 touchdowns and 19 interceptions and earned his lone Pro Bowl appearance. He also spent a season with the Arizona Cardinals before signing with Carolina before the 2011 campaign.
