FLL gets flights from Copenhagen and Stockholm

Broward County will have its first Scandinavian flights starting in the fall of 2013.

Talks with Norwegian Air started four years ago, and on Friday the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport announced flights to and from Copenhagen and Stockholm. The first Copenhagen flight begins Nov. 29, followed by Stockholm on Dec. 1. Both routes will run four days a week.

Though Scandinavia is a significant tourism market for Broward, FLL has not had service to and from the region from a major carrier.

“We’ve had a few charters. This is our first regular service,’’ said Steve Belleme, business development manager at the airport. “It’s a huge market for Broward. Scandinavians love Fort Lauderdale and they love the beaches.”
