A Miami-Dade police officer shot and killed a man after, they said, he got into the officers police cruiser and tried to run them over.
Officers went to Southwest 77th Street and 162nd Avenue when they got a call describing a suspicious person who was looking inside parked vehicles.
When they arrived Tuesday night and identified the suspect, they began to interview him. They said he was not able to give a plausible reason for why he was looking inside the cars and why he was at the scene.
The officers tried to handcuff the man, who they identified as Juan Luis Rodriguez, 44, but he started to struggle with them.
He broke away and got into their police cruiser. He then tried to run the officers over.
An officer shot and killed him.
Rodriguez already had an open probation warrant from 2008 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His record, which dated back to 1996, included sexual battery, robbery, burglary and cocaine possession.
