A pedestrian was struck and killed on Interstate 595 Wednesday night, closing all eastbound lanes of the expressway east of Interstate 95.
The lanes reopened just before 2 a.m. Thursday, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.
Sgt Mark Wysocky of the Florida Highway Patrol said travelers going to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport were affected and had to take Griffin Road or Davie Boulevard from I-95 to U.S. 1.
The pedestrian was not immediately identified.
The driver who caused a January crash that killed four family members, must pay $4,000, give up his driver’s license and complete 120 hours of community service, a Broward judge ruled Wednesday.
Heavy storms are expected to continue Wednesday, bringing more rain and possible flooding to South Florida.
