Vikings retain Simpson, Henderson

The Sports Network

The Minnesota Vikings were able to keep a pair of starters from last year's squad from joining other teams, with the team announcing it has re-signed both outside linebacker Erin Henderson and wide receiver Jerome Simpson.

Though terms of the agreements were not released, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported Henderson's deal to be for two years and Simpson coming back on a one-year pact.

Henderson has spent his entire five-year career with the Vikings and been a defensive regular the past two seasons, with the undrafted free agent posting personal bests for tackles (80) and sacks (3) while starting 10 of 14 regular- season games in 2012.

Simpson will have a chance to bounce back from a somewhat disappointing debut campaign with the Vikings, during which he managed just 274 receiving yards on 26 catches and did not record a touchdown in 12 games.

The former second-round draft choice had put up career bests of 50 receptions, 725 yards and four scores while with the Cincinnati Bengals the previous year.

Over five NFL seasons with the Bengals and Vikings, Simpson has compiled 97 catches totaling 1,278 yards and seven touchdowns.
