Re the March 5 article, Celebrity ‘fractivists’: The anti-fracking movement is strong in New York as it sits atop one of the largest shale gas plays in the country and the risk of water contamination could impact millions of people.
It makes sense that the movement would be strong there and we should applaud them for their success in keeping this risky process out of their state. Over 330 municipalities across the country have passed local resolutions and ordinances calling for an end to fracking and no one should have to deal with its environmental, health and community consequences. We need to invest in renewable energy and be more mindful of how much energy we’re consuming.
As the oil and gas industry look to Florida as a potential place to begin fracking we should be calling on our legislators to keep fracking out of Florida.
