Morgan's equalizer sends U.S. to Algarve Cup final

The Sports Network

Alex Morgan scored the equalizer in the 56th minute as the United States women's national team advanced to the final of the Algarve Cup with a 1-1 draw against Sweden on Monday.

A win or a draw in Monday's game would be enough to send the U.S. to its 10th title game appearance in 11 years, but the match didn't start well as Sweden took the lead in the fourth minute through Lisa Dahlkvist.

Lotta Schelin broke through on goal for Sweden, but her shot was saved by U.S. goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris. However, the rebound fell to Dahlkvist and she fired into the empty net from outside the area.

Despite failing to score in the first half, the U.S. generated some good chances and managed to equalize in the 56th minute on a Megan Rapinoe corner kick that Morgan headed home at close range.

The Americans held on for the draw following the goal and will meet Germany in the final of the competition on Wednesday.
