Re the March 7 article, Students lobby leaders for immigrant rights: I find the comments by these student leaders offensive and contradictory. Phillip Agnew’s statement the “young voters...are no longer asleep” is nonsense since non-citizens aren’t eligible to vote.
Lucious Mobley’s comment about being unable to participate in extracurricular activities because of a criminal record is pure whining. He was arrested and served time for selling cocaine when he was 21.
When one commits a crime, politicians excepted, one accepts the likelihood of paying a penalty. I fully sympathize with Margarito Cruz’s situation, but he isn’t a legal resident of Florida.
He must understand that the taxpayers of the state are justified in giving priority to its legal residents who pay the taxes to support those institutions of higher learning that he wishes to attend.
