Beach commission candidate to speak at breakfast
Sherry Roberts, a candidate for the Miami Beach City Commission will be the guest speaker at the Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club at 8:30 a.m.. on March 12 at David’s Cafe 1, at the corner of Collins Avenue and 11th St. in Miami Beach.
The Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club has met since 1996, at a local Miami Beach restaurant for informal, non-partisan discussions of issues to include political and governmental.

Downtown leader to speak at lunch
Alyce Robertson, the executive director of Miami’s Downtown Development Authority, will be the guest speaker Tuesday at the Miami Woman’s Club’s monthly luncheon meeting to begin at 11:30 with networking in the Ballroom of the Doubletree Grand Hotel, 1717 N. Bayshore Dr. Lunch and the program will follow at noon.
As executive director of the Miami Downtown Development Authority, Robertson directs the activities of the organization, while driving its mission to help make Miami a world class city and international center for commerce, culture and tourism. She has had over 34 years of experience in local government and was honored by the South Florida Business Journal as one of the "Most Influential Women in 2012." She has been instrumental in the development and execution of many projects countywide.

Gala to aid orphans
The Orphaned Starfish Foundation will host its first Miami gala to benefit orphaned children at 8 p.m. Friday at the Epic Hotel in downtown Miami. The event will feature Judy Reyes of "Scrubs" fame and Cuban-American Grammy nominates singer, songwriter and actress Cucu Diamantes as special guests.
According to a press release, the New York-based foundation is an internationally recognized, nonprofit organization that provides computer vocational training for orphans and disadvantaged children throughout the developing world. Friday will be its 12th anniversary, and its first fundraiser in Miami. Two young, orphaned children from the program in Cali, Colombia, are being flown in as guest honorees. The evening will feature hors d’ oeuvres, an open bar and silent auction to be followed by a three-course dinner, life auction and musical performance. Reyes will be the mistress of ceremonies.
