It’s hard to reconcile your March 3 headline, Florida lawmakers to angry voters: We hear you, with what the Florida Legislature is undertaking.
The session has barely started and already bills are moving to shut down local efforts to combat wage theft and prevent local governments from protecting worker benefits or even insuring local hiring. A bill to speed foreclosures comes at the expense of homeowners’ rights and has already cleared its first committee hearing. And, as reported, a committee turned its back on its own Republican governor by refusing to approve the expansion of Medicaid despite full federal funding.
I’m afraid that the only voters the legislative leaders are “hearing” are the same minority of big business and tea partiers that caused them to lose this recent election in the first place.
