SB612 alienates advanced nurse practitioners

 

The Florida Senate will be debating SB 612 which aims to forbid Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioners in Florida from using the title “Dr.” in front of their names. Isn’t it embarrassing enough that Florida remains one of two states that don’t allow nurse practitioners to have DEA numbers to prescribe controlled substances? It will become more difficult to attract highly educated nurses to the state or for R.N.’s to complete doctoral level degrees. To be snubbed in this manner when there are not enough medical doctors to treat the population will further alienate Florida healthcare providers.
