Profits up at National Beverage

The winter may not be great for soft-drink sales, but Fort Lauderdale’s National Beverage on Thursday reported strong profit gains in the first quarter.

Citing volume from La Croix sparkling water and Rip It energy drinks, National said revenue grew 6 percent to $144 million and profits were up 6 percent to $8.4 million.

Company CEO Nick Caporella has used earnings statements in the past to slam Washington (saying the era of national service ended on Election Day in 2012) and Wednesday’s statement contained a dire assessment of the nation’s health.

“Consistent quarters of revenue and earnings growth – achieved in a volatile environment of political and economic chaos – are a feat Team National is proud to report,’’ Caporella said in a statement.
