Police have identified the man found shot to death on a sidewalk in Miami’s Brownsville neighborhood.

Leig Wilcher, 19, was found by someone taking out the trash at about 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

Miami-Dade police said they received a call about 4:30 a.m. about gunfire in the neighborhood of Northwest 57th Street and 22nd Avenue, according to Miami Herald news partner CBS4. Officers checked out the call but didn’t find anything.

About an hour later, a person who lives in the area was taking out the trash and spotted a man on the ground. Thinking the person may have been a homeless and in need of help, the witness called the police, CBS 4 reported.

When police arrived, they found the body. Inside a pocket, according to police, they found an arrest report. Police said a records check showed the man had a criminal history.
