UM tops jobs opening list

South Florida has plenty of job openings, but tough competition for them too, according to a new report. For every open job in Broward and Miami-Dade, five people are looking for work.

That’s less than the national average of three job seekers for every opening, according to the report from simplyhired.com. Job openings in South Florida are up 24 percent this year, compared to a 20 percent increase nationwide. The report says there are about 53,000 job openings in the South Florida area.

The local employers with the most openings: University of Miami, Miami Dade College, Baptist Health South Florida, HCA Healthcare and McDonald’s.
