Morality not determined by God

 

Re the March 3 letter, Morality needed: History has shown that just about every major war ever waged on this earth was waged in the name of God. And there’s certainly not enough room here to list all of the men of God guilty of sexual abuse and the financial fleecing of their flock.

Morality isn’t determined by God, it’s determined by the instillation of good and moral values: Live and let live, be good to others and yourself, don’t hurt anybody. These values should be taught in every home and supported in every school.

I’m an athiest and I like to think that I live by these values. My children learned these values from my wife and me. I believe they live by them, as well.

Keep God in your home if you wish, but out of public schools.

    Re the June 14 story City to add 15 beds at shelters: Over the last several weeks our community has watched several Miami commissioners’ efforts to deal with the homeless population in and around the downtown urban core.

    Shame on the Miami Heat players, team management and the NBA for the deportment of the Heat players during the playing of the National Anthem before Game 4. Their disrespect was reprehensible and warrants immediate action by the league office. Not one of them rendered appropriate honor to our nation. They looked like a bunch of thugs.
