An attempted robbery backfired when the victim fatally shot his attacker Tuesday night in northwest Miami, police said.
About 7:30 p.m., police were called to 7000 NW 15th Ave. following reports of gunshots outside an apartment building. When they arrived, officers found two men who had been wounded, one of them critically.
Both were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where the man identified as the attacker died shortly afterward. Police did not identify the two men.
Miami police gave this account:
A man was approached by another armed man who demanded his belongings. The would-be robber then shot the man in the hand.
The victim, whose injury was said to be non-life-threatening, pulled out his own handgun and shot his attacker several times, leading to his death.
Police are investigating the initial shooting by the attacker.
