Myriam Marquez’s March 3 column, Juan Clark: most special professor, was of particular interest for me because Clark’s first cousin and his uncle, both named Waldemar Clark, were somewhat related to me. As I continued reading I found the names of my good old friend Sam Verdeja, whose name in our old country was Fructuoso Nildo Verdeja, and Guillermo Martinez whose father Guillermo Martinez Marquez, a past president of SIP, was a classmate of my father’s at Belén in Havana.
My joy reading the column stopped when I read, “Juan ‘Johnny’ Clark left us last week at age 73.” What a loss!
