Second workout for Paynter

The Sports Network

Belmont Stakes runner-up Paynter put in a second workout Tuesday morning at Santa Anita. The 4-year-old colt is owned by Zayat Stable and trained by Bob Baffert.

Winner of last year's Haskell Invitational, Paynter had a half-mile workout in 50 1/5 seconds. He had his first workout of the year last Tuesday when he went four-furlongs in 48 seconds.

Paynter came down with an infection after winning the Haskell at Monmouth Park on July 29. His elevated temperature prevented him from coming back to California or shipping to Saratoga for the Travers.

The colt has earned $952,224 in six starts with three wins.
