Former Fort Lauderdale Commissioner Cindi Hutchinson to change plea in potty case

Former Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Cindi Hutchinson will likely plead guilty to official misconduct and unlawful compensation, third-degree felonies, at a hearing later this month.

Hutchinson filed for a change of plea hearing Feb. 27 and it is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. March 18 in Broward County Criminal Court.

Prosecutors say Hutchinson’s handyman, developer Steve Goldstrom, did home repairs for her — including installing a toilet and changing light bulbs. In exchange, she supported his housing project. Hutchinson, a three-term city commissioner, was term limited out in 2009.

She was charged in 2011.

“We have had settlement discussions and there is going to be a change of plea...,” Hutchinson’s attorney, Bruce Udolf, said Tuesday. “It is going to be a recommended four-month jail sentence in the county jail.”

Prosecutors are expected to drop some of the counts.

“She is anxious to put this behind her,” Udolf said. “She has been living with this a long time.”

Ron Ishoy, spokesman for the Broward State Attorney’s Office, declined to comment.
