Recap: Arizona vs. Cincinnati

The Sports Network

Brandon McCarthy turned in three solid innings in his comeback from brain surgery, helping the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 7-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds in a spring training matchup.

McCarthy, who underwent a procedure last September for an epidural hemorrhage after being struck by a line drive while then a member of the Oakland Athletics, yielded just a solo home run to Zack Cosart while striking out five in his second outing of the spring.

Chris Owings belted a solo homer during a four-run seventh inning for Arizona, with Jason Kubel, Aaron Hill and Cliff Pennington each knocking home runners earlier in the game.

Xavier Paul had two of the Reds' six hits on the afternoon, while Cincinnati starter Johnny Cueto fanned four batters and allowed just one hit and one run through the first three innings.
