Our Lady of Lakes sports
Our Lady of the Lakes Athletic Director German Garcia announced the Primary boys’ basketball and JV baseball teams are All Catholic Conference North Division champions.
To clinch the titles, the basketball team defeated St. Patrick 36-24 concluding the season 9-1, and the baseball team beat Immaculate Conception 7-4 finishing the season undefeated at 10-0.
• The Our Lady of Lakes JV and Varsity cheerleaders competed at the Bash Elite Cheer Competition at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. Each team won with spirited cheer/dance routines. Coached by sisters Emily and Isa Caproni (OLL alum), they were also awarded the “Bow Award” worth $250 for their overall performance in the School Division.
Miami Rowing Club
The Miami Rowing Club attended the first novice regatta of the season in Orlando and the first varsity regatta in Fellsmere.
The MRC novice crews dominated the Orlando regatta, attended by nearly 40 Florida crews. MRC won the boys’ eight-man race, the girls eight-person race and the boys’ four- man, quad and double races.

The MRC varsity crews raced against 10 high school crews in the kickoff regatta of the spring season in Fellsmere. The race followed a Henley format with crews racing two at a time, head to head, with the looser eliminated and the winner continuing.
Rowers rowed up to three 2,000 meter races, if successful. Miami’s boys eight-man and four-man crews were, winning gold.
The gold medal winners are: 4+ VARSITY BOYS (Frankie Aguilar, Bernie Ramirez, Carlos Tornell, Jose Bared, coxswain Natasha Riveiro). 8+VARSITY BOYS (Frankie Aguilar, Luciano Mercenari, Zachary Skypeck, Bernie Ramirez, Alex Van Puffelen, J. Michael Toohey, Carlos Tornell, Jose Bared, coxswain Marcie Vidaurri).
Local track & field
Senior Alina Anderson of the Gulliver Prep girls’ varsity track & field team won the pole vault event clearing nine feet during a meet at the Westminster Academy Sports Complex in Lauderdale Lakes.
Juan Pino, a junior for Gulliver Prep, was third in boys’ pole vault, scaling 9-06. Junior Jonathan Saintil of Dade Christian won the boys’ long jump in 20-08. Saintil also won the boys’ triple jump in 45-01, followed by junior teammate Dillon Valejo in 39-02.
In the boys’ discus, Dade Christian senior Andrew Florvil won with a throw of 120-04. Senior teammate Aaron Batten was runner-up in 118. Gulliver Prep junior Braynon Edwards was fourth in 107-02. Florvil also won the boys’ shot put in 48-01. Edwards was runner-up in 43-02.5.
Ashley Okeke, a Dade Christian sophomore, was second in the girls’ shot put in 26-10. Northwest Christian freshman Bianca Holzendorf was fourth in 24-10. Dade Christian freshman Cristyn Myland was third in the girls’ long jump at 14-10.
