San Jose acquires Cato from Seattle

The Sports Network

The San Jose Earthquakes announced Friday that it has acquired midfielder Cordell Cato from Seattle Sounders FC in exchange for a fourth round pick in the 2014 MLS Supplemental Draft.

Cato logged one assist in eight appearances with Seattle in 2012, his first MLS season. The 20-year-old native also scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 defeat of the Earthquakes during U.S. Open Cup play in July.

"He came in a year ago for training and did very well," said Earthquakes head coach Frank Yallop. "We know quite a bit about Cordell. He's a young, exciting, pacy attacking player who adds another dimension to our squad."

San Jose also announced that it has signed draft picks Adam Jahn and Tommy Muller to contracts.
