I wonder how many of the people who are pulling for a large settlement from BP over the Gulf oil spill have considered what they are wishing for. They need to answer some questions before deciding this is what they really want. Where does BP get its money? How much will the cost of gas go up at the pump to pay for this settlement? Will this be a tax-deductible expense for BP? If so, how much will the average taxpayer pay to make up the difference the government needs to replace it? A big settlement sounds good but who does it really punish?
