Glenn Garvin’s Feb. 26 column, Left has own science deniers, about how activists are claiming public health hazards promoted by industries that make scientific claims to justify their practices, clearly exposes his own ignorance or denial — not science denial among liberals or progressives. The topics he covers are GMO foods (golden rice in particular), vaccines and nuclear power facilities.
Garvin fails to mention that activists warning of dangers from these industries come from both sides of the political and ideological divide. He also fails to admit that there are conflicting scientific claims about these subjects, and claims of safety are based upon using corrupted research and ignoring the existence of honest research that comes to different conclusions. One can go to websites such as gmwatch.org or do an online search about the subjects Garvin discusses, and within five minutes you can find solid scientific research and analyses that contradict his claims.
