Weather alert: Weekend cold snap to follow near-record heat

Miami Herald Staff Report

If you don’t like the weather in South Florida, wait a day or two.

Tuesday saw a near-record high temperature of 86 degrees in Miami, which is just two degrees shy of the all-time record set in 1897.

But don’t put away those winter jackets just yet. A powerful cold front will cause temperatures to fall during the week, with lows plummeting to the low-to mid-40s Sunday night.

Leading up to the weekend, South Florida can expect scattered showers, clouds and a breeze. Highs will be in the 70s Thursday and Friday and won’t get past the 60s over the weekend and Monday.

The weekend chill will bring sunny skies back to the area, although high temperatures will stay below 75 into the middle of next week.
