I support letter writer Steven Willis’ recommendation that South Florida should become the 51st state.
I’ve lived in Miami since 1959 and have witnessed all of the disadvantages to South Florida by being part of the state of Florida. One great advantage in dividing the state would be in the Federal Interstate Highway System. Further, with our tax money staying in the region we could enjoy more and better government services at no additional cost or lower taxes.
South Florida has traditionally sent money to Tallahassee only to see it benefit the state from Orlando north.
Becoming a separate state is long overdue.
