The Sports Network

Tony Cruz, Ryan Jackson and Matt Adams all drove in three runs as the St. Louis Cardinals recorded a 15-4 rout of the Boston Red Sox in Grapefruit League action.

The Cardinals pounded out 14 hits while also receiving a solid start from Jaime Garcia in his first outing of the spring. The left-hander scattered three hits and a walk over two scoreless innings, throwing 13 of his 17 pitches for strikes.

Cruz opened the scoring with a bases-loaded double off Clayton Mortensen in the top of the third, with Adams slugging a pinch-hit, two-run homer to highlight a big sixth inning in which the Cardinals scored five times.

Justin Christian added a two-RBI single later on as part of a 2-for-4 day, with Jackson also collecting a pair of hits and Oscar Tavares finishing 3- for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored in the win.

Free-agent addition Ryan Dempster pitched well in his Boston debut, with the veteran striking out two over two shutout frames. Lyle Overbay had an RBI double in the loss.
