Paynter posts first workout of 2013

The Sports Network

Paynter, winner of last year's Haskell Invitational, went back to the track for the first time Tuesday morning since being sidelined with health problems in 2012.

Owned by Zayat Stables and trained by Bob Baffert, Paynter worked three- furlongs in 36 seconds and galloped out four-furlongs in 48 seconds at Santa Anita.

Second in last year's Belmont Stakes, Paynter came down with an infection after winning the Haskell at Monmouth Park on July 29. His elevated temperature prevented him from coming back to Baffert's barn in California or shipping to Saratoga for the Travers.

The 4-year-old colt has won half of his six career starts for $952,224.
