Westwood Christian boys’ basketball unfazed by first trip to state final four

TEAMS OF THE WEEK

The Booker T. Washington boys’ and Northwestern girls’ track and field teams won the team titles at the Louie Bing Invitational. Deltron Hopkins won boys’ meet MVP honors after winning the 100 meters and helping win the 400-meter relay. Junior thrower Lloydricia Cameron won the shot put and discus for the Bulls.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Jorge Perez-Laham, South Miami, boys’ basketball: Perez-Laham had a combined 45 points in two regional playoff victories over Palmetto and Hialeah Gardens that clinched the Cobras’ first trip to state final four since 2004.

Trey Mourning, Ransom Everglades, boys’ basketball: Mourning had 15 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks, some of which came before the Raiders took control, in a 64-44 victory over Davie University School that clinched Ransom’s first trip to the state final four.

Zachary Johnson, Norland, boys’ basketball: Johnson had a game-high 26 points to lead the Vikings to a 85-59 win over Fort Myers in a Region 4-6A final.

Thiago Conceicao, Westwood Christian, boys’ basketball: Conceicao had 17 points, 16 rebounds and eight blocks to lead the Warriors to a 71-48 victory over Zion Lutheran in a Region 4-2A semifinal that clinched their first trip to the state final four.

Melsheree Reid, Miami High, girls’ basketball: Reid hit a buzzer-beater and second consecutive game-winning shot in the playoffs to help the Stingarees beat Orlando Colonial 46-44 in a Class 8A state semifinal.

Breanna Blot, Miami Country Day, girls’ basketball: Blot had a game-high 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the Spartans to a 60-51 Class 3A state semifinal win over Seffner Christian.

Octavio Mirabal, Southridge, baseball: Mirabal went 2 for 4 with three stolen bases to lead the Spartans to a 4-2 win over Palmetto.

Karli Smith, Florida Christian, softball: Smith went 3 for 3 with two RBI in a win over Archbishop McCarthy and threw a perfect game against Somerset.

Avery Lopez, Belen, boys’ track: Lopez won the 1,600 and 3,200 meters and anchored the 3,200-meter relay at the Martin County Invitational.

Kimani Austin-Reese, Central, girls’ track: Austin-Reese won the 300-meter hurdles in 44.25 seconds at the Louie Bing Invitational.

Paul Andrey Pierre-Louis, Krop, boys’ tennis: Pierre-Louis won his singles match to lead the Lightning to a 4-3 win over Reagan.

Jackie Rosales, Mourning, girls’ tennis: Rosales swept her match to lead the Sharks to a 7-0 win over Hialeah-Miami Lakes.

Mack Shoer, Ransom Everglades, boys’ lacrosse: Shoer had four goals to lead the Raiders to a 12-5 win over Belen Jesuit.
